Poker Strategy - Your Jewelry: Be aware of what you may be saying with your jewelry. If you are wearing a 1975 Timex with a leather band, your watch may or may not be noticed. I know that if I see someone wearing a watch just described, I would think, he is either conservative, sentimental, or just plain broke. If that is what you want the opponents to think, then by all means put it on. If you want people to raise you all of the time, you should wear conservative jewelry, if you want people to fear raising you, wear your best stuff. If you best stuff says, "I'm broke" it is better to not wear any jewelry at all-unless it is a lucky charm of course. Remember, it is not a matter of having jewelry or not, it is what you are wearing that makes a statement.

Poker Strategy - Your Clothes: Just as with your jewelry, you need to pay attention to what you are wearing. If you think you are going to play extremely conservative that day, wear something loud and aggressive looking. It may help to throw people off from you game plan. If this is your plan, it may be good to come out betting aggressive the first hand or two and then about 6 hands in. Show you crappy cards if you lose, people with think your crazy and even if it costs you a few bucks. A loud comment or two will certify your aggressive nature to help with your plan. You may make much more in the long run if everyone thinks you’re aggressive but you’re really not. On the other side, if you are going to be aggressive, try to look poor and conservative. A buttoned up shirt, or a shirt and tie, or a suit may help portray conservative for you. I recommend a quiet demeanor as well, it is hard to play an act of conservative if you are yelling and screaming.

Poker Strategy - Are You Tired? If you have had a long day at the office, haven't slept well, or maybe are a little slow from partying the night before, forget about playing poker. This is one of the worst times for you to play texas holdem or any poker game for that mater. You may think you're all right, but your brain is probably not running even 90%, in fact, it may be running at about 50% of the necessary function needed to play your best game. You are spending most of your time just trying to keep up. In case you’re unaware of your state of mind, you'll know if you keep hearing the dealer or other players tell you, "It's your turn sir". However, if you think you’re in good shape, go ahead and play. Keep an eye out for the other guy who constantly has to be reminded by other players when it is his turn and know that he is probably running a little slow. Increase your odds by playing when you’re ready and aware.

Poker Strategy - Are You Going On Tilt? In case you haven't heard of this texas holdem expression, Tilt is when you have lost a hand or a few hands in a row and you’re so upset about it that you no longer have the mental ability to play the game properly. You care much less about the money in front of you. You start to play a lot of weak hands or try to bluff people out. You throw all of your money in the pot on in the hopes to get back what you deserve. In other words they, "Go on Tilt". Anyway, if you realize this is happening to you, it may be best to quit for the night or at least go take a break for few.

Therefore, if you go to the casino with friends or family to play together or just share the experience, it is a good idea to play lower stakes at the texas holdem table , than you may usually like to play. Any professional texas holdem player would tell you it is best to go alone. Why? If you go alone, you can leave when you have achieved or goal or lost the amount you originally were willing to risk. If you’re with friends or family, you may have to stick around longer than you wanted to which could be costly. However, if you read all of the material on this web site and the books in the (Suggested Readings) section, you probably won’t lose too often no matter who you are with.

WHAT LEVEL OF TEXAS HOLDEM POKER PLAYER ARE YOU?
If you are a novice or beginner, all of the better texas holdem players at the table will spot you a mile away. You’ll check when you should have bet or fold when you should have called. Anyway, you will be giving off quite a few signals here and there of your level of play. From the point you are spotted people will be hunting you like a lion hunts a zebra. You will no doubt have a disadvantage, but don't sweat it, everyone needs to start somewhere. Our suggestion is that you take it easy your first few times out. If you a good player or great player, you’ll be spotted too by the other good and great texas holdem players. The beginners might only notice you for your chip stack size but the better players will know you’re a gamer. There are a few things you can do to downgrade the level of play the others think you’re at such as purposely knock down your chip stack. That will get you noticed.
